    An awesome book with information, tidbits and footnotes about what it meant to be a Roman soldier You couldn t be a soldier unless you were than 5 1 2 And you had to pledge 25 years that would bind you to the Roman army or until you died If by chance you survived 25 years, you would be so addicted to fighting that you wouldn t want to leave, not that you would want to leave anyway and by then you were disposable That is why there were so many Roman legions because they made soldiers out of Roman men I must say that the basic diet is disgusting hard bread with lard and vinegar or sour wine to wash it down I wonder if going Commando came from Romans not wearing underwear Roman soldiers didn t have an easy life, between cleaning the latrine a...
